Description | The Music Ministry degree is tailored to music majors desiring to serve as a Music Pastor or Worship Leader after graduation. Arizona Christian University believes strongly in it’s Christian mission, and takes seriously the privilege to prepare students to lead worship in the church, whether it be modern worship or traditional worship. During the first two years of study all music majors, including Music Ministry majors, take core music academic classes to learn musicianship skills. These courses include Music Theory 1-4, Sight Singing 1-4, and Music History 1-2. Eight semesters of Applied Lessons on either an instrument or voice teach the student proper technique, which is then tailored for the specific career path chosen. Applied Lesson students enjoy learning a variety of musical styles, including Classical, Modern Christian, Jazz, and Pop/Rock. Mastery is demonstrated by a Junior and Senior Recital. Another component for all Music Majors is participation in musical ensembles, such as Praise Band, Choir, Instrumental Ensembles and Musical Theatre. As upperclassmen, Music Ministry majors take courses designed to meet the specific needs of music pastors: Philosophy and Foundation of Church Music, Technology in Ministry, and Church Music Administration. In addition, students learn both Choral Conducting and Instrumental Conducting. Music Ministry majors prepare on the practical, experiential level for leading worship by participating first and then leading praise bands for chapel. At the end of the senior year a Ministry Internship provides experience while demonstrating mastery of the skill necessary to lead worship. |
