Programme Detail: Bachelor of Theology in Evangelical Theology

Language of this entry English (UK, International)
Name of Programme / Training Resource Bachelor of Theology in Evangelical Theology
Type of Training Individual standalone programme
Reference Number
Description ESSA is in the process of applying to phase out its currently registered BTh degree and replace it with the BTh in Evangelical Theology (BTh EvTheol) which will also be a 3-year, 360 credit degree registered as level 7 on the National Qualifications Framework. As from 2012 the BTh will encourage students to focus on certain majors, thereby enabling students to gain access to several BTh Hons programmes offered by UKZN, SATS, UNISA and most other institutions of Higher Education. The ESSA majors will focus on Biblical Studies, Practical Ministry or Theology. These majors will be designed to suit Preachers, Pastors and Academics. Mode of Delivery: The BTh Ev Theol degree is offered in one to two weeks block release courses. The block release system requires courses (approx. 20 hours) to be taught intensively in a single week. People with an occupation would in this way get their degree as part-time students by attending classes for a week at a time. While this programme is designed for 3 years of full-time studies, the block release model will allow students to pursue their own pace of studies. Some students may choose to study this programme for 6 or even 8 years, but will be able to keep their job at the same time. This model also allows students to “test??? their academic capabilities before committing to three years of full-time studies, possibly only to find out that this is not what they wanted.
